PIPER APPOINTS NEW EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT

April 13, 2010 01:29 by Aircraft Sales

Randy Groom Will Focus on Sales, Marketing and Customer Support

VERO BEACH, Fla., April 1, 2010 – Randy Groom, an experienced senior executive and prominent aviation professional with more than 36 years of leadership roles in general aviation, is the new Executive Vice President of Piper Aircraft, Inc. He will report to Piper President and CEO Kevin J. Gould.

Randy’s role at Piper Aircraft is to continue building and expanding Piper`s market share across all model lines and to take Piper`s customer experience to new levels of performance.

"One of the main reasons I was attracted to Piper is because I love their products and really believe they are the right aircraft for these times,” said Groom. “No other General Aviation manufacturer has such a comprehensive lineup of single-engine aircraft in every class, ranging from a great looking LSA PiperSport clear up to the very cool and affordable Meridian turboprop. We also have the trusted and respected Seminole and Seneca V workhorse twins. And I can't wait to get involved with the PiperJet, which will provide our customers with truly breakthrough performance, comfort and efficiency."

Groom comes to Piper from Groom Aviation, LLC – a company he founded and that has worked with a wide variety of General Aviation businesses. At Groom Aviation, he and his team provided customers both strategic and tactical guidance to make the most out of existing markets and to uncover new markets to maximize business performance. Groom’s extensive aviation background also includes senior executive positions with Hawker Beechcraft Corp. (formerly Raytheon Aircraft Company) and on the dealer side, Groom has held several senior sales and executive positions with Piedmont Hawthorne Aviation, Inc. – a longtime Beech dealer.

A graduate of Oklahoma State University (OSU), where he earned his B.S. and an M.B.A. in Marketing, Groom is an instrument-rated commercial pilot and has logged more than 10,000 accident-free hours in his 40 years of flying – 18 of those years as an aircraft owner. Groom worked his way through OSU as a flight instructor and charter pilot and was the youngest flight instructor for the U.S. Air Force at age 19.

Diamond's DA42 NG receives FAA certification

April 9, 2010 00:28 by Aircraft Sales

Diamond Aircraft announced today that it has received FAA certification for its DA42 NG airplane, powered by twin 170 hp Austro Engine AE-300 turbo-diesel powerplants.

Particularly significant is that this certification also approves IFR and FIKI (known ice) operations.

Of special interest to existing DA42 owners, the approval also includes conversion of TAE powered DA42s to the NG configuration, including optional installation of the Garmin GFC 700 autopilot.

“We are following through on our commitment to existing and future US based customers by offering a new turbo-diesel propulsion solution for the DA42,” said Christian Dries, CEO of Diamond Aircraft Industries. “The DA42 NG is better in every respect than the original DA42 TDI, with much improved performance, increased gross weight, even better fuel efficiency, Garmin GFC 700 autopilot and Garmin Synthetic Vision Technology. With Diamond now offering FAA certified Lycoming and Austro Engine powered versions of the DA42, our customers have a wide range of options to match their requirements and preferences.”

“Quite frankly, we couldn't predict if and when TAE would emerge from bankruptcy protection and therefore it was in our customer's best interests that we pursued TAE independent alternative solutions to support maximum value of previously delivered aircraft. Today, customers have the choice of staying with the TAE engines or converting to either Lycoming or Austro Engines.”

“We are currently in the process of establishing the service and support infrastructure for the NG in North America and will shortly be announcing the details of an all-inclusive maintenance program that will ensure a superior level of support for DA42 NG owners.”

With well over 500 delivered aircraft operating worldwide, the DA42 is the best selling light twin engine piston aircraft – popular with private pilots as well as flight training organizations. With its all-carbon airframe, known ice certification, Garmin G1000 integrated avionics deck and single lever jet-fuel powered turbo-diesel engines, the DA42 NG is the undisputed technology leader in general aviation.

The DA42 NG, along with Diamond's complete piston line-up, and the latest design D-JET mockup will be on display at the Diamond exhibit at Sun 'N Fun, Lakeland, Florida, April 13-18.
